Improper certificate validation vulnerability in Pidgin - CVE-2022-26491ID: oval:org.secpod.oval:def:84616 | Date: (C)2022-09-29 (M)2023-01-09 |
Class: VULNERABILITY | Family: windows |
The host is installed with Pidgin before 2.14.9 and is prone to an improper certificate validation vulnerability. A flaw is present in the application, which fails to properly handle issues in validation of DNS responses. On successful exploitation, an attacker can redirect a client connection to a malicious server. The client will perform TLS certificate verification of the malicious domain name instead of the original XMPP service domain, allowing the attacker to take over control over the XMPP connection and to obtain user credentials and all communication content.
