Multiple heap-based buffer overflow vulnerabilities in VideoLAN VLC Media PlayerID: oval:org.secpod.oval:def:69 | Date: (C)2011-02-03 (M)2023-11-09 |
Class: VULNERABILITY | Family: windows |
The host is installed with VLC media player and is prone to multiple heap-based buffer overflow vulnerabilities. The flaws are present in cdg.c in the CDG decoder in VideoLAN VLC Media Player before 1.1.6, which are caused by array indexing errors in the "DecodeTileBlock()" and "DecodeScroll()" [modules/codec/cdg.c] functions within the CDG decoder module when processing malformed data. Successful exploitation allows attackers to crash an affected application or execute arbitrary code by convincing a user to open a malicious media file or visit a specially crafted web page.
