MSS: (NoNameReleaseOnDemand) Allow the computer to ignore NetBIOS name release requests except from WINS servers

ID: oval:org.secpod.oval:def:27673Date: (C)2015-10-08   (M)2023-07-04
Class: COMPLIANCEFamily: windows

The registry value entry NoNameReleaseOnDemand was added to the template file in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Netbt\ Parameters\ registry key. The entry appears as MSS: (NoNameReleaseOnDemand) Allow the computer to ignore NetBIOS name release requests except from WINS servers in the SCE. NetBIOS over TCP/IP is a network protocol that among other things provides a way to easily resolve NetBIOS names that are registered on Windows?based systems to the IP addresses that are configured on those systems. This setting determines whether the computer releases its NetBIOS name when it receives a name-release request. Fix: (1) GPO: Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options! The registry value entry appears as MSS: (NoNameReleaseOnDemand) Allow the computer to ignore NetBIOS name release requests except from WINS servers in the SCE. (2) REG: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Netbt\Parameters!NoNameReleaseOnDemand
